About CryptYak

CryptYak is a small toolkit for sending things between two computers privately. It does three jobs — a shared clipboard, a peer-to-peer chat, and a 24-hour drop box — and ties them together with a single idea: your browser scrambles your data before it leaves you, so I never get to see the readable version.

There are no accounts to create, no analytics, no third-party trackers, no ads. The page you load is exactly the page I serve. Read how it works for the friendly tour.

Heritage

The original idea came about in 2018 when a friend and I were on the phone — we just wanted to quickly and privately share ideas, but we really trusted nothing out there. CryptYak was just an idea, one that web frameworks hadn't caught up to yet. In 2021 I released a demo but it really wasn't ready; I toyed with it and shelved it. This version is a from-scratch rebuild on a modern stack. The yak logo and favicon set are the only things that survived the rewrite.

Who am I?

My name is Damon, aka CA3LE. I created TestMy.net in 2001, a successor to an earlier popular internet speed test I started in 1996 (it outgrew my teenage abilities). I've been building the internet since the beginning. This is a project I built for myself and friends — use it or don't. I'm not opening the source because that opens a can of worms I don't care to deal with. This is a solid piece of software without being open source. If you're a researcher, dig in. Every claim is verifiable.

Promise

I never sell or share what little I can see. I never run analytics or third-party JavaScript. I am transparent about how it works and honest about the limits.
